We have previously demonstrated that polyelectrolyte (PE) multilayer thin films deposited on hydrogel particles with a large number of bilayers can be obtained in short process time using alternating PE droplets in a microfluidic channel. In this study, we present the block copolymer micelle (BCM) multilayer thin films deposited on hydrogel particles in a microfluidic channel, clearly demonstrating the process advantage over the conventional deposition process. Two different fluorescence dyes were incorporated into the core regions of two different BCMs. Positively- and negatively-charged BCM droplets in a microfluidic channel were alternatively generated, enabling the alternative adsorption of BCMs on hydrogel particles in the microfluidic channel, similar to the layer-by-layer (LbL) deposition method. The morphology of multilayered hydrogel particles was examined by confocal laser scanning microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. |
