Water-based resin emulsions including additives like fumed silica particles or melamine beads were prepared. After coated and dried, they could be applied as coating agents for corrosion resistance of metal substrates as well as a primer-typed coating agent for covalently bonded thereto. In order to get polymeric coating agents with the physical and mechanical properties required for applications, most of them were used as chemical blends or composites. It was observed that the characteristics of the agents depended not only on the properties of the individual components, but also on the phase morphology, and particularly on the interfacial properties. |
