Preparation of non-phthalate plasticized Poly (vinyl chloride) (PVC)/Montmorillonite (MMT) nanocomposites for intravenous (IV) tubes |

Flexible poly (vinyl chloride) (PVC) is a widely used material for intravenous (IV) tubes. However recent concerns on endocrine disruption of phthalate derived plasticizers have led to extensive researches on alternative plasticizers. In this research dioctylmaleate was chosen as a non-phthalate plasticizer for the preparation of flexible PVC and its plasticization effect was investigated. Two commercial non-phthalate plasticizers and dioctylphthalate were used to prepare samples for comparison. To improve the thermal and mechanical properties of flexible PVC Montmorillonite (MMT) reinforced PVC nanocomposite were prepared by melt compounding process. The incorporation of MMT successfully increased the thermal and mechanical properties of flexible PVC.
