Poly (vinyl chloride) (PVC) is one of the most commercialized thermoplastic polymer material due to its low cost, processability, flame retardance, versatile properties and its compatibility with various additives. Various non-phthalate esters have been investigated as alternatives due to elevated health concerns on phthalate derived plasticizers. However the comparably low compatibility of phtalate alternatives results in higher plasticizer migration rates leading to shorter shelflife. In this research to determine the migration. The migration of plasticizers were measured in accelerated conditions using the ASTM D1203-94 method. After a set period of migration time the mechanical and thermal properties of the plasticized PVC were evaluated. This research demonstrates the effect of migration of different plasticizers on the properties of plasticized PVC. This research was supported by the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning of Korea; Project No. NRF-2015M3C8A6A06014792. |
