Effects of Seawater Ionic Constituents on Photocatalysis of Seawater Organic Matter |

In this study, we investigated the influence of ionic species in seawater on the photocatalytic degradation of seawater organic matter (SOM) during submerged photocatalytic membrane reactor treatment prior to seawater reverse osmosis filtration. It was found that organic removal was a function of ionic conductivity of seawater, which might be associated with the interaction of specific ions with TiO2 photocatalysts. The ions may interfere with the adsorption of SOM on TiO2 surfaces leading to low SOM degradation. |
