Modification and Mechnical Properties of PLA/PBAT Blends |

In recent years, the utility of biodegradable polymers has received much attention due to the complex issue of plastics waste management. poly(butylene adipate-co-terephthalate)(PBAT) is one of the promising materials for the production of environmentally biodegradable polymers. But the mechanical properties of PBAT such as softness and flexibility are insufficient for various end-use applications. For desirable mechanical properties, fillers are mixed into the biodegradable polymer matrix. Also, PLA(poly(lactic acid)) is an attractive material for replacing petrochemical polymers because it is biodegradable and annually renewable resources. PLA is characterized by high tensile strength, but unfortunately the brittleness of PLA limits its applicability. This work was undertaken to examine in the effect of modifiers on the physical and mechanical properties of PLA/PBAT blends. Diisocyanate and coupling agent were used as modifier for increasing miscibility between PLA and PBAT. |
