Azide-based heterobifunctional poly(ethylene oxide)s: Synthesis of α-azido-ω-amine poly(ethylene oxide). |

Poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) has been widely used in the pharmaceutical and biomedical area due to their physical and biological properties, including solubility in water and organic solvents, and less toxicity. PEOs are are easily modified by chain-end functionalization of the products obtained via living anionic ring-opening polymerization. Many fascinating applications require heterotelechelic polymers. The purpose of this work is to obtain PEOs with well controlled molecular weight and heterobifunctioal polymers which can be used in the biomedical field. In this study, we used sodium azide as an initiator. The polymerization of ethylene oxide is controlled by sodium azide in DMF at 50 °C. After complete polymerization, we react α-azido PEO with another reagents. Finally, α-azido-ω-amine PEO could be successfully synthesized. |
