Polylactide(PLA) has been widely studied as a biodegradable and biocompatible polymer in biomedical field. Heparin is widely used to increase the biocompatibility(blood and cell) of materials. In this study, a novel heparin immobilized star-shape polylactide(PLA) has been prepared, which can be applied as more blood/tissue compatible biodegradable materials in implantable medical devices and tissue engineering. Star-shape PLLA were synthesized by bulk ring opening polymerization of L-lactide with pentaerythritol and stannous octoate. And then star-shape PLLA were coupled with heparin by N-(dimethylamino) pyridine(DMAP) and dicyclohexylcarbodiimide(DCC). The synthesized star-shape PLLA heparin conjugates were characterized by FT-IR, NMR, elemental analysis and colorimetric assay. The biological activity of immobilized heparin was estimated with contact angle masurement, toluidine blue assay, platelet adhesion test and activated partial thromboplastin time(APTT) test.
