제목 Controlling Laminated Structure of Graphene Oxide Membrane with Shear-induced Alignment for Improving Ion Rejection
초록 Graphene oxide (GO), a flexible two-dimensional (2D) material, can be utilized to fabricate laminated membranes with nanoscale channels for sieving various molecules. However, the separation performance of GO-based membranes is significantly deteriorated by defects such as wrinkles inevitably created during membrane fabrication. Since both nanopores and wrinkles act as molecular or atomic pathways without a proper control of transported species, it is necessary to suppress the formation of structural defects by developing a facile fabrication method. Here, we developed a novel method to regulate the layer-stacked structure of the GO membrane through shear-induced alignment with a continuous agitation process. The exerted shear stress is simply controlled by changing the agitation rate and viscosity of the GO dispersion, thereby confirming the optimal condition for the well-stacked GO structure. As a result, the GO membrane with few defects exhibits the improved ion rejection rate, compared to the pristine GO membrane. By employing this facile defect control approach, it is anticipated to obtain well-laminated films of other 2D materials for various applications.
