Interaction of Glycosaminoglycan with Calcium Phosphate-Coated Collagen Film |

Glycosaminoglycan (GAGs) is a group of linear polysaccharides and highly interac with water. There are various types of GAGs and participate in varous biological functions in human body, such as lubricant, signal transduction. We speculated that the some of GAGs play a signficant role in bone metabolism and investigated the interaction of GAG with artificially prepared bone simulant. The bone was mimicked by calcium phosphate-coated collagen and allowed to interact with GAG. The interaction was analytically evaluated using an Fourier transform infrared spectroscope and surface hydrophilicity under various GAG concentrations. The effects of the interaction of GAG with bone simulant on cellular activity were evaluated via cell assay, osteoblast proliferation and differentiation in particular. |
