Synthesis and characterization of mesoporous TiO2 |

Spherical mesoporous TiO2 has many attracted as a photocatalyst due to its large surface area and light absorption properties. However, the wide band gap of TiO2 can absorb only UV light region which is <5% of solar intensity. Herein, we investigated the synthesis and application of mesoporous colored TiO2 by using soft template, followed by chemical reduction method. The introduction of stabilizing agent improved the porosity. Mesoporous TiO2 reduced with NaBH4 exhibited great permeability and 97.9% degradation of methyl violet in 80 min under visible-light irradiation. This efficient visible-light-driven photocatalytic degradation is ascribed to the synergistic effects of high surface area and lattice disorder, resulting in maximizing the valence band and minimizing the conduction band. |
