Late transition metal catalysts for olefin polymerization have become special interest in last few decades. Heterogeneous catalysts are industrially more important and a prerequisite for the application of homogeneous catalyst for polyethylene is immobilization on a support. In this study, silica-gel was synthesized and used as a support. Modified Ni/α-diimine and Fe/pyridyl-diimine catalysts have one amino group which was utilized for immobilization. The resultant silica-supported catalysts were characterized by SEM, TEM, and FT-IR spectroscopy. They were used for ethylene polymerization in the presence of cocatalyst like methyl aluminoxane (MAO), and ethyl aluminium sesquichloride (EAS). Supported catalysts were found to be active towards ethylene polymerization in combination with MAO and EAS. Ni/α-diimine and Fe/pyridyl-diimine catalysts showed activity only in combination with MAO and EAS respectively. |
