To evaluate the posterior and anterior restorations of polymer composite filled with fumed silica, heat treatment process between 600 and 1000 ℃ was adopted to modify the structure and surface properties of silica. Using Brunauer-Emmett-Teller and particle size analyzer, particle size as well as surface area of silica were investigated. Experimental results showed that both particle size and surface volume of silica were decreased with an increase of heat treatment temperature. Hydrophoicity of heat-treated silica was better than that of neat silica. Also, it was found that the lower heat treatment temperature, the better dispersity of silica in polymer composite containing a heat-treated silica was observed because there was no agglomeration between silica particles. |
