제목 | Application of p-dihalobenzenes to develop a greener process for acetaminophen |
초록 | Acetaminophen, a major active ingredient in Tyrenol, is conventionally synthesized from chlorobenzene. The conventional process is started with the nitration of chlorobenzene under the strong acidic conditions. Because of the regioisomer formation, a separation process for p-chloronitrobenzene is inevitably progressed. After the hydroxylation to p-nitrophenol, sequential the reduction and the acetylation are followed to produce acetaminophen. Although acetaminophen is successfully synthesized via the above mentioned process, the process includes some improvements. In order to improve the problems on the conventional process, p-dihalobenzene has been applied to Cu-catalyzed reactions. Each of the halides on p-dihalobenzene is effectively substituted with N-acetylamido- or hydroxy moiety, and acetaminophen is practically synthesized via only two reactions. Besides, unlike the conventional process, a greener process environment is achieved in the presence of Cu catalysts. |
