Preparation of Quantum Dot-embedded Polystyrene Nanobeads for Bioimaging |

We demonstrate the development of heavy metal-free quantum dot (QD)-embedded polystyrene (PS) nanobeads for the purpose of introducing stable and bright fluorescence imaging probes. The design compromises encapsulating biocompatible poloxamers and cross-linked PS nanomatrices in which QDs are incorporated. PS nanobeads of sub-10 nm with a narrow size distribution were synthesized by emulsion polymerization with a nonionic surfactant. For a postsynthetic process, CuInS2/ZnS QDs were loaded into the nanobeads which were swollen in a co-solvent system. As-prepared nanoprobes exhibit high colloidal stability and corresponding fluorescence maintenance as well. Efficient in vivo tumor-targeted imaging was achieved by using the newly developed nanocomposites, being consequently presented as potential candidates toward in vivo tumor diagnosis. |
