By using relationship between the chemical structure and self-assembly behavior of amphiphilic block copolymers(BCPs), solution self-assembly of amphphilic BCPs has been extensively used for the creation of nanostructures with desired size, shape, and physicochemical functions. This simple ‘bottom-up’ method could provide ordered structures with desired morphology, including spheres, cylinders, bicontinuous structures, lamellae, vesicles, and many other complex or hierarchical assemblies. We report the self-assembly of amphiphilic block copolymers having precisely defined bulky dendritic blocks into colloidal particles having highly defined internal bicontinuous cubic structures (polymer cubosomes) in aqueous solution. Here, in a nontraditional way, we synthesized block copolymers constructed on a dendritic block having fixed molecular weight but different number of hydrophobic PS chains to elucidate the effect of the molecular architecture on the self-assembled structures. |
