Acquiring electrophysiological signal is essential for understanding physiological mechanism of site-specific organs. Among them, Adrenal gland is a small organ on endocrine system but plays important role maintaining homeostasis against external stimulation, for example stress. However, application of the electrophysiological probe for the adrenal gland to understand its mechanism had been limited due to its anatomical limitations compared to the other organs like brain or spine. Here, we fabricated polymer-based, chronically implantable, anchor-shaped, flexible probe and implanted the probe to adrenal gland on a rat and let the device hold it on the exact location due to anchor like geometry. Then we measured adrenal cellular activities of ion flux, responding to external stress. The probe worked successfully more than 2 months without tissue damage and the behavioral abnormality. It was the first trial recording cellular activities of the adrenal cortex in vivo in our knowledge. |
