Thin and Light-weight Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) Shielding Composites Using Skin Percolated Core-shell Microsphere |

As the electronic devices such as aircraft, mobile phone and automobile have been growth, electromagnetic interference shielding effectiveness (EMI SE) have received much attention. In general, metal with high conductivity is used to minimize EMI problem, which should cause the malfunction of the devices. However, their application using metallic materials is limited in technical demand, which has been efforts to reduce the weight of the devices. Electrically conductive polymer composites can resolve this challenge because of their lightweight, good processability, low cost compared to the conventional metal-based materials. Here we introduce the electromagnetic interference shielding effectiveness (EMI SE) of multilayered structure by connecting metal-coated polystyrene (PS) core-shell. Incorporating only 5.52 vol% of metal, the epoxy/core-shell composites with a 1 mm thick exhibit an EMI SE at 50 dB corresponding to 99.999% shielding of incident waves. |
