High density polyethylene (HDPE) membrane filled with alumina particles was prepared by a wet process. The wet process is applicable to both crystalline and amorphous polymers, and its resulting membrane is non-oriented for mechanical strength. Soybean oil and dibuthyl phthalate (DBP) were premixed as a codiluent. The HDPE pellets and alumina with the co-diluents were mixed in the extruder. The mechanical properties of the alumina particles filled HDPE membrane with a soybean oil were investigated. The morphological changes of the samples were observed using a scanning electron microscope. Also, the porosity was measured with a mercury porosimeter. The pore volume and pore size on the microporous HDPE films were increased with an increasing content of soybean oil. However, the mechanical properties of the samples were decreased with an increasing content of soybean oil. |
