Coating with macroporous polyarylate on the polyethylene separator via a nonsolvent induced phase separation process for the enhancement of thermal stability |
초록 |
Microporous thin film fabricated from high density polyethylene (PE) is mostly used as separator for commercially available lithium ion batteries. Shutdown of a PE separator takes place when a lithium-ion battery is overcharged. If the mechanical properties of the separator deteriorate greatly after shutdown, a safety hazard leaded by internal short of circuits in the cell can occur. The shutdown temperature of a PE separator is close to its meltdown temperature. So, lithium battery can be seriously damaged after shutdown. To maintain robust mechanical properties after shutdown, we design the separator that have a porous PE layer coated with another porous polymer like a polyarylate (PAR) that have higher thermal stability. Nonsolvent induced phase separation process is used for preparing a porous coating layer. The formation of a porous coating layer on the PE separator and changes in morphology with the casting solution compositions were confirmed by scanning electron microscopy. |
