제목 EFFECT OF BORIC ACID ON THE OPTICAL PROPERTIES AND PHOTOSTABILITY OF DYE/POLARIZING FILMS
초록 Dye/polarizing film, which controls the transmittance of light associated with liquid crystals, is a very important optical component for liquid crystal displays. Dye/polarizing film is obtained by the stretching of PVA film doped with dye molecules in boric acid solution. Drawing of the film makes the dyes oriented in agreement with the stretching direction and the transition dipole moment vectors of them lie towards the direction, resulting in the anisotropic absorption of light in the visible wavelength range1-3. During this process, boric acid presumably contributes to both the alignment of the polymer-dye complex and the photostability of the polarizing films. In this study, dye/polarizing films were manufactured in the presence and in the absence of boric acid. The effect of boric acid on the orientation of the polymer-dye complex and the photostability of the polarizing films was examined on the basis of the optical properties of these films.
