Smart windows using thermo-reversible polymers against external temperature |

Poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAm) polymers using water based system are known as multi-functional materials being thermo-reversible sensitive and environment-friendly. The PNIPAm polymers for application of smart windows are required significantly to the critical temperature around 30℃ and the proper difference between above and below critical temperature in transmittance. We prepared the PNIPAm polymers by radical polymerization and placed between two glasses. The gap of the glasses varied from 0.5mm to 10mm. The sample showed high infrared reflection with hazy in visible at above critical temperature but, at below critical temperature high transmittance is observed in visible and infrared range. PNIPAm polymers can be considered as good candidate materials for smart windows. |
