Characterization of polystyrene grafted poly(ethylene-alt-tetrafluorothylrene)(ETFE) films by γ-ray simultaneous irradiation |

Dynamic mechanical properties and morphology of polystyrene grafted poly(ethylene-alt-tetrafluoroethylrene) (ETFE) film prepared by simultaneous radiation grafting method were investigated. The dynamic mechanical study of PS grafted ETFE films shows the three tan δ peaks; two different shoulder link peaks at low temperature are due to the glass transition temperature of the ETFE crystalline region and ETFE amorphous region, respectively, whereas the other at high temperature peak is due to the glass transition temperature of the PS amorphous regions. This study indicates that the ETFE phase and the PS phase could be separated in the PS grafted ETFE film. It was also found that no significant change in the degree of crystalline at ETFE crystalline regions occurs during simultaneous radiation grafting of styrene into the ETFE films from DSC and XRD studies. Thus, it can be suggested that the styrene monomers are mainly grafted at the ETFE amorphous regions. |
