제목 “Living” Ring-opening Polymerization of Ethylene Oxide and Chain End Functionalizations: Amination & Thiolation
초록 In this study, poly (ethylene oxide) was synthesized through living anionic polymerization using n-butyllithium and potassium t-butoxide in a ratio of one to one in the mixture of DMSO/THF/Benzene (30/5/65, v/v/v). n-butyllithium was taken into the reactor under an inert gas condition and degassed. THF(5ml) and Benzene(300ml) was added respectively. EO gas, 40ml was introduced into the reactor through vacuum distillation. DMSO (50mL) and potassium t-butoxide were added after 12h and stirred at 35oC for 24h. The resulting polymer was terminated using excess diethyl ether. ω-Tosyl PEO was obtained by the reaction of alkoxide PEO with p-toluenesulfonyl sulfonyl chloride. The tosyl end group was then converted to various end functional groups like azide, amine, and thiol. ω-thioacetate was reduced using NaBH4 in Methanol/THF mixture resulting in the production of ω-thiol PEO. In this presentation we will report the preliminary results for the chain end functionalizations.
