MWCNT, dispersed in polystyrene, was blended into low density polyethylene by melt mixing in a microcompounder. The resulting blend sample was continuously treated under a constant shear force at a certain temperature. The samples were fractured at liquid N2 to make smooth surfaces in either parallel or perpendicular direction of shear force, followed by extraction of PS with toluene. SEM photographs revealed directionally elongated PS phases, along with MWCNT inside the confined channel of PS, in LDPE matrix. |
