1,3-propanediol (PDO), a C3 compound produced biological by breaking away from petrochemical process, has been developed and commercialized by DuPont as a raw material for PTT (polytrimethylterephthalate) production. Since then, its use has been expanded to cosmetics and food, and the demand in the market is continuously increasing. Currently, the production cost of PDO by Lactobacillus is 1.5 - 2 times higher than the existing petrochemical process and Dupont's corn-based process. However, even if the price is high, consumer needs for products based on natural raw materials are increasing due to used directly on the skin. In this study, we were performed the optimization to solve the problems of reduced efficiency and low productivity of the electrodialysis process among separation and purification for PDO commercialization using Lactobacillus fermentation. It was intended to develop the optimization development of fermentation medium for the production of PDO as cosmetics raw material and a process for improving the efficiency of electrodialysis to remove ionic inhibitors (a by-product of the fermentation broth). |
