We investigated cellular toxicity of graphene oxide (GO) and its derivatives to simulate in case of inhale. The viability of A549 cells, a human lung carcinoma epithelial cell line, were evaluated after GO and its derivatives (reduced GO (rGO), dodecyl-amine GO (DA-GO), sodium dodecyl sulfate GO (S-GO)) exposure. GO, rGO and S-GO in low concentration (3~25 ug/ml) has shown that minor toxicity, while DA-GO have shown severe toxicity by dose dependent manner in same concentration range. In high concentration range (50~400 ug/ml), all GO and its derivatives have affected severe toxicities to A549 cells. These results suggest that GO, rGO and S-GO are pretty safe materials to the physiologically accepted concentration in some degree. And severe toxicity affects to cell by its functional group residue.
