Composites made with boron carbide materials are well-known absorbers of thermal neutrons, and improve physical properties, and thus may be used as radiation shielding materials. Polyethylene/boron carbide material composites were manufactured by traditional polymer processing methods. Radiation shielding efficiency, mechanical properties, and thermal conductivity of the composites were analyzed. Also, We used boron carbide, which has surface energy higher than the boron nitride, without surface modification to prevent aggregation. In order to improve the shielding rate, we increased the number of collisions of radiation, followed by the addition of tungsten oxide powder. |
