Preparation of spherical-shaped Y3Al5O12:Ce3+ phosphors by one-pot synthetic method |

Recently, there have been the studies that suggest the use of phosphors with nano-sized and spherical-shaped particles. The particles can significantly reduce the amount of light scattering at surface of the phosphor particles, improve the efficiency and increase the packing density. In this study, one-pot synthesis of Ce-doped yttrium aluminum garnet (YAG:Ce3+) phosphor based on a hydrothermal reaction was designed. The reaction conditions to obtain spherical shape of particles were optimized. The solvent and temperature in hydrolysis stage greatly influence the particle shape. The optimum solvent composition of alcohol to water was the ratio of 5:1. A single-phased YAG:Ce3+ phosphors were obtained with firing the precursor particles at 1000℃. The obtained YAG:Ce3+ phosphors exhibited typical excitation and emission spectrum. Their photoluminescence properties were compared to those by conventional solid-state method. The optimum Ce3+ content of the YAG:Ce3+ phosphor prepared by one-pot synthetic method was estimated to 3 mol %, compared to 2 mol% by solid-state method. |
