Effects of Crystalline Order on Exciton Diffusion Length in Poly(3-hexylthiophene) |

Exciton diffusion in organic semiconductor has crucial effects on the performance of organic solar cells. The exciton diffusion lengths of polymer semiconductors have been rarely studied compared to small molecular semiconductors. Here, we accurately measure the exciton diffusion length of poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT) as a function of crystalline order using spectrally resolved photoluminescence quenching. The extent of crystalline order of P3HT films was varied using different thermal annealing (TA) temperature and measured by X-ray scattering. As TA temperature increases, the FWHM of (100) peak decreases and mean crystal size increases. In addition, exciton diffusion length increases as TA temperature increases. The exciton diffusion length in P3HT is increased more than twofold over that of untreated films through an increase in the extent of crystalline order. As a result, we concluded that exciton diffusion lengths of P3HT films monotonically increase with crystal size. |
