Optimization of reaction parameters for non-oxidative conversion of methane |

A recent discovery of vast reserves of shale gas has led to extensive research on the synthesis of valuable chemicals from methane. Despite the potential importance, most methane conversion technologies are not commercially viable due to their low carbon efficiency. Non-oxidative conversion of methane could be an alternative approach to produce light olefins and aromatics. A key challenge for the non-oxidative conversion of methane is to increase hydrocarbon yield above 30% while minimizing coke selectivity. In this presentation, we will discuss how to enhance the hydrocarbon yield, including C2 and aromatics. Based on the thermodynamic analysis with experiment results, we have successfully minimized the side reactions that lower the hydrocarbon yield. We have also optimized the reaction parameters such as hydrogen to methane ratio and reaction temperature to suitably fit the reactor system. Finally, we have obtained the long-term stability of our reactor system for 200 hours. |
