Synthesis of α-azido-ω-anhydride-hetero-bifunctionalized poly(ethylene oxide) andits application for preparation of nano-sized ZnO particles |

We have developed a useful method to control the molecular weight of poly(ethylene oxide) by n-butyllithium-initiated ring-opening polymerization of ethylene oxide with tert-butoxide in the mixtue of benzene/DMSO. Alkoxide bearing sodium or potassium counterion is well known to initiate EO leading to living polymerization . In this study, 3-azidopropanol could be readily synthesized by the reaction of 3-chloropropanol with NaN3. It was converted to the corresponding sodium alkoxide in THF using sodium metal, followed by polymerization of EO at room temperature for 48h. After polymerization, trimellitic anhydride chloride was delivered into the reactor via a breakseal technique. This α-azido-ω-anhydride-hetero-bifunctionalized PEO was reacted with folic acid leading to generation of α-azido-PEO-folate conjugate. ZnO nanoparticles were prepared by using of PEO-based hetero-bifunctionalized polymer with zinc acetate in water. In this presentation preliminary results will be reported. |
