Star polymers are branched polymers consisting of several linear chains linked to a central core. The physical properties of star polymers are different from linear polymers depending on the molecular parameters such as the number of arms, molecular weight of arms and their distributions. But it is not possible to prepare truly homogeneous polymers. Therefore, precise molecular characterization is necessary to address the physical properties of the star polymers. In this study, we synthesized 6-arm star PS using anionic polymerization and 1, 2-bis (trichlorosilyl) ethane as a linker. We characterized the 6-arm star PS by SEC and temperature gradient interaction chromatography to figure out the byproducts and to devise an efficient way to acquire high-purity star polymers. |
