제목 Importance of ionomer binder in catalyst ink slurry for high performance of polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell
초록 It is well known that the interaction between solvents, ionomer binders and catalyst nanoparticles in catalyst ink plays an important role in the performance of PEMFCs as it determines the final micro-morphology of the catalyst layer. In this paper, 3M725 perfluorinated sulfonic-acid (PFSA) ionomer binders have been investigated which has higher polymeric main-chain mobility, increase solubility, shorter side-chains and lower equivalent weight than the conventional Nafion 1100 series of ionomer. These binders with high dispersibility exhibits more developed and connected secondary pore catalyst layer structures and fewer clustered agglomerates; thus, it shows higher performance in a single cell, particularly under low relative humidity conditions. These insights help to elucidate the reason for the difference in performance by different ionomers and provide the foundation for improving the fuel cell performance of Nafion-type ionomers.
