With the development of non-Pt electrocatalysts showing high-performance in alkaline electrolyte, there are huge academic interest in anion-exchange membrane fuel cell. Especially, most research is aiming to design highly active hydrogen oxidation reaction (HOR) electrocatalysts since it is the bottle-neck for overall performance by its poor reaction kinetics. PtRu alloy has been reported as one of the best catalysts for HOR because Pt serves as hydrogen active sites and Ru serves as oxophilic sites for hydroxyl species. In this study, we synthesized highly dispersed PtRu/C by using N-functionalized carbon support. N-rich surface of functionalized carbon provided effective anchor site for PtRu NPs, which contributed the dispersion of catalysts on the support. Thereby synthesized PtRu/C showed enhanced performance in half-cell test and full-cell operation. Through this research, we identified the importance of dispersion of electrocatalysts for fuel cell reactions. |
