제목 Functionalization of Graphene Using Styrene Monomers and Synthesis of Polystyrene Nanocomposites
초록 In this paper, we report a facile method in grafting styrene monomers on the graphene surface through Friedal-crafts acetylation reaction using zinc oxide as a catalyst to develop a novel styrene grafted graphene. End-tethering of polystyrene (PS) on the graphene surface has been carried out by polymerizing the styrene monomer in the presence of styrene grafted graphene through free radical polymerization. Successful tethering of PS on graphene surface is confirmed using various characterization tools. Polystyrene grafted graphene is incorporated as nano-filler in the polystyrene and its influence on the mechanical and electrical properties are investigated. Tethering of PS on graphene surface significantly improves the properties of polystyrene nanocomposites due to the enhanced polymer-graphene interaction as well as fine dispersion of graphene in the polystyrene matrix.
