In this study, polyethylene naphthalate (PEN)/layered silicate nanocomposite (PLSN) was prepared through the melt blending process in twin screw extruder using supercritical CO2(scCO2). ScCO2 act as a reversible plasticizing aid which improves the diffusion of PEN molecules into the gallery spacings of layered silicate and lowers the processing temperature of the PLSN. Structural analysis was performed using XRD, TEM, and SEM. The dispersion of the silicate layers in the PEN matrix was analyzed by melt rheology of the PLSN. The use of scCO2 showed improvement in dispersion of the silcate layers in thePEN matrix . |
