Synthesis and Characterization of Polybenzoxazole-co-Poly(ether-ketone) Block Copolymers |

Although polybenzimidazoles (PBIs) have been intensively investigated and have demonstrated quite attractive properties for the potential use of PEMFC applications, they are known to be electro-chemically unstable. On the other hand, polybenzoxazoles (PBOs) are one of the most electro-chemically stable polymers, but they are difficult to be sulfonated due to the electron deficient nature and the inherent insolubility of the polymers in common organic solvents hampers their applications. Thus, a series of AB diblock copolymers of polybenzoxazole (PBO) and poly(ether-ketone) (PEK) were prepared for two reasons. The one is PBO block provides the stability; the other is PEK does the sites for solubility as well as electrophilic substitution reaction. On the basis of morphology study, some samples displayed microphase separation. Depending upon the morphology, proton conductivity would be greatly enhanced. |
