제목 Synthesis of Nitrogen Doped Multi-walled Carbon Nanotube and Its Electrocatalytic Activity for Oxygen Reduction Reaction
초록 The multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were covalently grafted with 3,4-diaminobenzoic acid (DBAc) via Friedel-Crafts acylation reaction in a mild acidic polyphosphoric acid (PPA)/phosphorus pentoxide (P2O5) medium. In order to introduce nitrogen atoms to graphitic MWCNTs (N-doped MWNTs), the resultant 3,4-diaminobenzoyl-functionalized MWNTs were simply annealed at high temperature in nitrogen. The structure of the N-doped MWNTs was confirmed by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, elemental analysis and Raman spectroscopy. According to XPS results, the nitrogen content of N-doped MWNTs was 4.1%. There were three types of N-doping, including pyridinic, pyrrolic and graphitic nitrogen. N-doped MWNTs exhibited high electrocatalytic activity toward oxygen reduction reaction, and much higher stability against CO poisoning and methanol crossover effect than those of conventional platinum (Pt) catalysts.
