Effect of anionic ion exchange membranes on the electrochemical separation of sulfuric acid and sugar from a hydrolysate of the biomass hydrolysis with concentrated sulfuric acid |
초록 |
Most of biomasses can easily be converted to sugars by hydrolysis with concentrated sulfuric acid. In order to ferment resulting hydrolysate to bio-alcohols, sulfuric acid must be separated from the outcome. Electrochemical cells with anionic ion exchange membranes were employed to separate sulfuric acid and sugars in the hydrolysate. Separation performance and electricity consumption of cells were found to be largely affected by a type of membrane used. In search of high anion transfer rate, selectivity, and durability, anion exchange membranes were tested by examining effects of current density, separation time, operating temperature, and structural changes in a strong acidic solution. |
