Highly urbanized cities, agricultural intensification, increasing industrial production in combination with the effects of climage change and population growth will impede the realization of many sustainable development goals. In this regard, small-scale decentralized wastewater management systems can have high importance for ensuring availability and sustainable management of wastewater, resource recovery and sanitation. Interests in anaerobic membrane bioreactor (AnMBR) are growing rapidly to advance wastewater management due to small foot-print required and high effluent qualities as well as production of renewable energy in form of biomethane. Studies on anaerobic fluidized bed membrane bioreactor have been conducted extensively due to innovative way to control membrane fouling which is necessary phenomena in MBR operation. However, critical aspect of warranting AnMBR is the coupling of the unit to post treatment approaches to improve the efficiency of resource recovery and meet stringent reuse standards. This presentation covers fundamentals and applications of AnMBR for wastewater treatment and researches on hybrid AnMBR process to update resource recovery from the produced. |
