Blends of three different styrene-based ionomer containing ca. 6 mol% of ionic repeat units were prepared and their properties were investigated dynamic mechanically; the three Na- neutralized styrene ionomers were poly(styrene-co-itaconate) (ITANa), poly(styrene-co-methacrylate) (MANa), and sulfonated polystyrene (SNa). In these three ionomer blend systems, the ITANa has two carboxylate ionic groups per ionic repeat unit, while the MANa has one carboxylate ionic group. The SNa has one sulfonate ionic group per ionic repeat unit. the interactions between Na and sulfonate are much stronger than those between Na and carboxylate. Thus, this work will give us the information on the relationships between ionic strength-number of ionic groups-miscibility of ionomer blends.
