제목 Grafting of 3- and 4-Phenoxybenzoic Acids onto the Surface of Single-Walled Carbon Nanotube (SWNT)
초록 Single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) have high mechanical strength, chemical inertness and excellent thermal and electrical conductivities. SWNTs, however, have the difficulty in efficient dispersion. Especially, their intrinsic Van der Waals attraction leads to significant lump. To transfer their outstanding properties to the supporting matrix, homogeneous dispersion is required. Thus, 3- and 4-phenoxybenzoic acids were polymerized in the presence of SWNTs to graft corresponding polymers via Friedel-Crafts acylation in polyphosphoric acid (PPA). In this paper, we are to report our on going effort on the polymerization progress onto the surface of SWNTs. The progress polymerization and the covalent attachment of polymer onto the surface of SWNTs were traced by a Fourier transformation infrared spectrometry (FT-IR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), tunneling electron microscopy and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA).
