Activated carbon is one of the most effective adsorbents for organic compounds because of their extended surface area, high adsorption capacity, microporous structure and special surface reactivity. Microcapsules, consisting of such biodegradable polymers as hydrophobic poly(ε-caprolactone) and hydrophilic poly(ethylene oxide) and activated carbon, were prepared by an oil-in-water emulsion solvent evaporation method. Scanning electron microscopy was used to study the morphology and size distribution of biodegradable microcapsules. UV-Vis spectroscopy was used to investigate the release of model drug. Poly(ε-caprolactone)/poly(ethylene oxide) biodegradable microcapsules containing activated carbon showed the higher release as the content of poly(ethylene oxide) increased. |
