제목 Enhanced microbial oil production by Cryptococcus curvatus by utilizing nitrogen-limited medium and VFAs from Gelidium amansii digest
초록 Oleaginous yeast’s Cryptococcus curvatus can produce lipid more than 70% of their biomass under nutrient starvation and excess carbon source. Such microbial oils can be transesterified to fatty acid methyl esters (FAME) as feedstock for manufacturing biodiesel. This study utilized VFAs (10.17g/L) as carbon source from fermentation of Gelidium amansii (30g/L), a fast-growing renewable marine biomass known for high amount of carbohydrate. The highest lipid content (75%, w/w) synthesized was noted earlier than 48hrs presumably due to controlled initial set-up in which the medium’s nitrogen level via batch cultivation system was brought to minimum (1mg/L) favoring lipid production than biomass synthesis. Profiling of FAME also matched those found in plant oils which affirmed the applicability of yeast for biodiesel preparation.
