제목 | Advanced Oxidation Disinfection Processes for Water Reuse: Comparison of Peracetic Acid and Performic Acid for E. coli and Antibiotic Resistant E. coli Disinfection of Wastewater |
초록 | Recent advances in the understanding of the role of OH• radicals as a disinfectant, formed from secondary oxidants such as PAA and PFA, have increased industrial interest in these organic peroxides. These acids pose numerous advantages over current technologies and importantly can be easily retrofitted to current wastewater treatment plants. This thesis project examined; The disinfection abilities against E. coli and antibiotic resistant E. coli for PAA and the disinfection abilities against E. coli of PFA. PAA and PFA were found to be capable of equalling and bettering current chlorine disinfection log reductions of E. coli; PFA is capable of achieving the most favourable log reductions when compared to PAA. However, PAA provided stronger results with regards to long-term disinfection due to the extended lifetime of the OH• radicals which form from its degradation. |
