제목 | Synthesis and characterization of Exfoliated PS-co-PMMA/Na-MMT Nanocomposites via Emulsion Polymerization with AMPS |
초록 | ABSTRACT A method was described for synthesis of PS-co-PMMA/Na-MMT nanocomposites through an emulsion polymerization with 2-acrylamido-2-methyl-1-propanesulfonic acid(AMPS). The synthesis was carried out first by mixing AMPS, MMA and Styrene with pristine Na-MMT dispersed in water and then by adding MMA and Styrene subsequently. The nanocomposites were exfoliated during polymerization because AMPS made the polymer end-tethered on pristine Na-MMT. The nanocomposites were exfoliated up to the 3wt% content of pristine Na-MMT in the case of 1:1 monomer weight ratio(MMA:Styrene) by using XRD and TEM. The mechanical property and thermal stability of nanocomposites is increased comparing to neat copolymer. The storage moduli for the nanocomposites show a monotonic increase at all frequencies with increasing silicate content. All prepared nanocomposite materials exhibited apparent low-frequency plateaus in the linear viscoelastic moduli. Increasing the concentration of clay in the nanocomposite results in a large increase in the complex viscositey of the nanocomposite materials. At high clay loadings, no evidence of a low-frequency plateau complex viscosity is shown and significant shear thinning is observed. |
