Development of Injectable Cell/Microsphere Aggregates for Tissue Engineering |

Injectable delivery systems have been widely exploited in tissue engineering, as cells can be delivered into the body in a minimally invasive manner. In this research, we propose to use RGD-alginate microspheres to form cell aggregates as an injectable. Alginate is a natural polymer that has been extensively used in many biomedical applications. Alginate microspheres were fabricated using the water-in-oil emulsion method and modified with RGD peptides. The aggregation behavior of RGD-alginate microspheres/chondrocytes mixtures was measured by a rotational rheometer and the efficacy of the mixtures in cartilage regeneration in mice was tested. |
