In this study, we have developed a fibrous polymer adsorbent that contains a lot of amine groups and is capable to easily remove and recover anionic contaminants. A polyethylenimine (PEI) and polyvinyl chloride (PVC) crosslinked polymer solution was synthesized by alkylation at 80 oC for 6 h, and then extruded in water to produce the PEI/PVC-crosslinked fiber (PEI/PVC-CF). Various preparation conditions of the adsorbent were also investigated in order to further enhance the adsorption capacity of PEI/PVC-CF for Pd(II) and Pt(IV). The sorption performance of the optimized PEI/PVC-CF was evaluated through isotherm and kinetic experiments and the recovery of adsorbed metals was also studied. As a result, the maximum adsorption capacities of PEI/PVC-CF were 217.3 mg/g of Pt(IV) and 146.0 mg/g of Pd(II), respectively. After adsorption, Pd(II) or Pt(IV) on PEI/PVC-CF was easily desorbed by using acidified thiourea solution. |
