Removal of Cobalt Oxides on Metal Surface by Dry-ice Pellet Blasting |

Metallic radioactive wastes from nuclear industry can be reused or recycled by decontamination process that removes radioactive nuclide. The dry decontamination process is preferred in industrial fields because the wet process needs radioactive liquid waste treatment facility and produces large amount of secondary waste. In this research, dry-ice blasting decontamination experiments were carried out to develop an effective dry decontamination process. Blasting time was increased at intervals of 5 seconds and distance between nozzle and surface of specimen was maintained to 5cm and 10cm. Although more than 90% of contamination was removed at initial reaction, the strongly fixed contamination was remained, independent of reaction time. It was proved that dry-ice blasting decontamination technology is conveniently applicable and appropriate technology to physical contamination, and pre-treatment decontamination process connected with another decontamination technology which can remove fixed contamination. |
